Byron Nelson Championship - 2013

Back to Texas this week for the Byron Nelson Championship where a very competitive field yet again tees it up on the Four Seasons Resort in Las Colinas. I missed out on a good payout last week when I opted for Zach Johnson over Kevin Streelman at the Masters despite his recent form, preferring experience of Sawgrass over that current form. Lesson learned? Maybe adjust the staking plan accordingly to allow room for "the toss of coin" choice. I hope I have achieved that lesson learned by deciding to leave the Volvo Matchplay alone, only backing two in Madeira, and completing the plan with real contenders here. Its a par 70 course where wind will act as its best defense this week. One of the staggering statistics from this event is,that the past 30 years has produced 30 different winners! Its not the reason though that I strike both Keegan Bradley & Jason Dufner off my original shortlist. I just feel there is good value elsewhere.

DA Points is in great form and won the Shell Houston Open back in March. He has also recorded a runner up spot at The Zurich and comes here with good course form also with two TOP10s in '09 & '10. This all "points" (sorry couldn't resist) to a real challenge this week and at 35/1 with Betpack I'm not leaving him out.
My second pick is a player that I had on board at the same Zurich Classic as mentioned above but left out for the Houston & Texas Opens despite hailing from the state. Dallas native, Jordan Spieth made his debut on the PGA here at this event 3 years ago aged just 16 ! He finished 16th that week. He ranks in the top 10 in par 4 scoring on tour this year and that's a stat that will be of interest this week. He has three TOP10s this season, he's only 19 you know, and he is one for the future if not now. I've missed some of the better prices available this week but I'm still happy to take the 40/1 on offer with

My third pick is recent Augusta playoff contender, Angel Cabrera @ 80/1, again with Betpack. The Argentinian is playing some great stuff lately and he is just simply too big in the betting to ignore. This is a guy who has won two Majors on American soil and will be keen to add a regular Tour Title to his list of achievements. He tees it up alongside Martin Kaymer & Charl Scwhartzel, 3 Major winners. Its his debut here but that should not be a deterrent and having played well at the Players last week despite a disappointing final round he should be ready to make that 80s look too big indeed.

I'm adding a 4th pick in the shape of Harris English who has shown plenty of potential on tour the past 18 months or so. The 23 year old has made the weekend 11/14 starts this season and has three TOP10s, one of which was at the recent Zurich Classic before finishing a creditable T33rd at Sawgrass. Ranked in the top 10 on Tour for the amount of birdies made this season and showing some form lately,66/1 is well worth taking. (general)
