Qatar Masters 2019 - Doha GC

More wind on the card this week as the Middle East Swing finishes up in Doha, Qatar on the Europeantour. Players that had to endure the shamal last Friday in Muscat will be hoping for just gales this week, but they can be assured of more than a breeze this week where Doha GC always provides! And with that in mind, the approach this week is pretty much the same as last week and history enforces that thinking as the Qatar Masters has continually rewarded those players that tend to play well at The Open or indeed other links courses on tour. Paul Lawrie has won twice here, as has Branden Grace and Adam Scott, and you could argue that Scott really should have at least one Claret Jug on his mantelpiece at home by now. Ernie Els and Henrik Stenson have won here, and if you consider Sergio Garcia, Thomas Bjorn and Retief Goosen who have also won here, and their Open form over the years, its easy to see the link. Last years victor, Eddie Pepperell has shown links form is vital for victory in Doha.

My initial shortlist threw up 24 players, of which I considered 8 to be of value. Gavin Moynihan duly obliged last week in the TOP-20 market and this week represents another week to make hay; links, wind and space off the tee. If its a links player we want, Gavin is must go-to player for me again. As with last week, I'll keep Chris Wood and Ross Fisher in the plan. Wood is a former winner here, well versed on both this course and indeed windy links tracks as too is Fisher. I appreciate Wood is coming back of injury but he's shaken off the cobwebs now and can dismiss last week easily given the conditions and make the 50s look silly. (Betfair though are offering 45/1 for 8 places in the each way market)Ross Fisher has been playing better than results have produced of late...he gets one more chance. I've perhaps made a mistake in leaving out Erik Van Rooyen & Joachim B Hansen and I also pondered whether to include Lucas Herbert, but I'll stick with the experienced English duo in the outrights.
