This is an event I do not want to get too involved in as I couldn't complete a tissue at all for it falling way short of forming a proper "book" for me. Some of the players at 20/1 - 40/1 range really are poor value and even taking into account the strength of the field, they are players that I'm not going to consider. Some but not all, Shelton @ 40/1 , Hubbard (and I've backed him a few times already) @ 22/1, Rodgers @ 28/1, Wu & Sigg @ 40 - 45/1 are crazy low prices but the market leader Denny McCarthy has to be a lay @ 16s !! Even the 25.00 on the exchange is low. Imade Seamus Power favourite @ 25/1

Given I couldn't complete a tissue and therefore derive a shortlist, Max gets backed again (I hope the wind doesn't get up) @ 250/1 - 8 places and I had been drawn to possibly taking Russell Knox @ 30/1 - 8 places. In the end, it's just my personal interest in Max and he's added to the blog P&L for this weeks poor quality PGA event

Selection

1 pt e/w M. McGreevy @ 250/1 - 8 places

Portugal Masters 2022 - Dom Pedro GC, Vilamoura, Portugal

The frustration continued last week in Mallorca when Yannik Paul captured the title having backed him 4 times this year and as recently as the week before! I've backed him in those 4 events @ 801/, 67/1,67/1 & 33/1 so perhaps the value loser has materialized and I should take heart but the P&L has suffered the past few weeks with all the near misses. He was 25/1 last week and was on my 10-man shortlist along with 3 other players who finished TOP-10 (4/10!) and yet I left empty handed. And maybe I'm going to bring more pain this week as I'm sticking with 2 of the players that I backed last week that finished 9th & 16th and that's Hurly Long & Nicolai Hogaard as well as keeping faith with Marcel Schneider who finished 23rd.

From my 16-man shortlist below I settled on a final 10-man shortlist before finalising the 5 players highlighted in green. Queue the remaining 5 yellow highlighted players for Portuguese success so !

For a recap this season:
  • I've backed Hogaard 3 times this year - no return
  • I've backed Schneider 4 times this year - 2 placings for +13.50 pts
  • I've backed Long 4 times this year - no return
  • I've backed Nemecz 2 times this year - no return

CJ Cup 2022 - Congaree Golf Club, South Carolina

The CJ Cup remains on US soil again this year and visits Congaree GC which hosted the Palmetto Championship June 2021. Its a strong field headed by Rory McIlroy, Scottie Scheffler, Justin Thomas, Jon Rahm, Collin Morikawa & Matt Fitzpatrick, 6 of the world's TOP-10, and three reigning Major champions!

I've settled on a 7-man shortlist so probably the winner comes from the other leading contenders from the top echelons of the OWGR rankings but if we are in for a birdie fest then we might just get a run with the staking plan as per below

Mallorca Golf Open 2022 - Son Muntaner Golf Club, Palma, Mallorca, Spain

Approaching this week's event with some trepidation, I've settled on a 10-man shortlist as per below with the selections marked in green making it to the staking plan despite Ryan Fox being of big interest. It's been quiet of late with quite a few selections the past 4 weeks finishing either one or two shots out of placings so hoping the door will open soon with a win.

ZoZo Championship 2022 -

The PGA returns to Japan this week for a reduced field, ZoZo Championship to be played once again at the Accordia Golf Narashino CC in Chiba.

Tough market for me to assess this week but I did narrow it down to the shortlist below. However, many of the US-based players appear to be much lower priced by the books than my own tissue ( e.g Grillo,Herbert,Pereira,Stallings & NeSmith to mention a few) that perhaps my tissue is totally wrong this week so it's a cautious play with just three selections, two of which are local Japanese players

Andalucia Masters 2022 - Valderrama GC,

Always a great tournament at Valderrama GC and this year's version shouldn't disappoint as defending and current US Open Champion, Matt Fitzpatrick defends.

The P&L has been hit badly the past few weeks and last week emphasized the frustration when Hennie du Plessis backed for 6 places and Yannik Paul backed for 7 places, finished one shot away and in a tie for 8th! Not to mention Renato Paratore finishing another shot further back---the picks were good, the result should have been better!

Matt Fitzpatrick follows Jon Rahm here this week doesn't he by winning as a hot favourite to do so? Always hard to go back to back of course but if Matt brings his A-game, starts well he will be very hard to beat although he did miss the cut here in 2019. He's definitely worth taking on and last week's gallant pursuer of Rambo, Min Woo Lee has to be confident of a good showing having finished runner-up twelve months ago to Fitzy. Further down the betting order though, I do like the chances of Thorbjorn Olesen,Guidi Migliozzi,Ewen Ferguson, Romain Langasque, Pablo Larrazabal,John Catlin, Max Kieffer & Jeff Winther, who defends the Mallorca Open next week.
