Qatar Masters

Thomas Aiken opened well last week in Dubai but again a poor weekend saw him drop right down the placings and to be honest the patience is starting to wane. And so it is I will look at my pool of players for this week. That means Ross Fisher at 28/1, great odds -I simply can't pass up. I will also go with Alex Noren at 50s again great odds for a man I believe will be very consistent this year.
I've missed the boat already this year, I really did fancy Kaymer last week but was put off by the 14/1 on offer and of course Shane Lowry placed at 175/1 (1/4 odds) not to mention Rhys Davies

Again my pool of players to consider this year are:

Thomas Aiken
Martin Kaymer
Ross Fisher
Lee Westwood
Padraig Harrington
Alexander Noren
Rhys Davies
Shane Lowry

Bank Balance after Abu Dhabi +63.43

Qatar Masters Selections:

1 unit e/w R.Fisher @ 28/1 (Paddy Power)
1 unit e/w A.Noren @ 50/1 (William Hill)

Abu Dhabi Golf Championship

More disappointment in Johannesburg the weekend when Alejandro Canizares slipped back on Sunday when looking poised for a good finish. No doubt he will pop up again either this week or next such as the way my luck has been going ! (O missed cut in East London but returned top 10 in Joburg).
This week sees the first serious lineup of 2010 but disappointingly no Padraig Harrington.Naturally,Lee Westwood & Rory McIlroy head the betting, but at 12/1 value is sought this early in the season.Charl Schwartzel can be got at 25/1, not a bad price for a player on a strong roll of form, but I do feel tempted to once again take a punt on Thomas Aiken @ 125/1. Its a toss up between Alexander Noren @ 45s and Oliver Wilson @ 66s. Recent back injury may be reason for the odds on Wilson but I think those odds warrant a punt so he is taken over one of my "ones to follow"

Bank Balance after Joburg Open +67.43 (profit +57.43)

Abu Dhabi Selections:

1 unit e/w O.Wilson @ 66/1
1 unit e/w T.Aiken @ 125/1

Joburg Open

A hard field to select the winner from this week where bookies have all the leading contenders marked up at 20/1 or less. I will take a chance on A.Canizares again, he is capable and has had some decent scores lately and the odds of 66/1 are just about right for me. Lee Slattery is too good a golfer to be priced at 300/1 so a punt on him also has to be taken.

Bank Balance after Africa open +61.43

Joburg Open Selections:

1 unit e/w A.Canizares @ 66/1
1 unit ew L.Slattery @ 300/1

Africa Open

Investing just 4.5 units this week on a couple of 66/1 shots in the shape of Scott Hend and Hennie Otto. Both are quite capable of going 4 rounds low enough to challenge and as the field doesn't appear too strong they just may be in with a shout. Thomas Aiken does go this week but at 28/1 I am enticed to overlook him until another day.

Bank Balance +65.93

Africa Open Selections:

1.25 units e/w Scott Hend @ 66/1
1 unit e/w Hennie Otto @ 66/1

New Year Approach

Having finished up with a profit of +65.93 for 2009, I am a little disappointed as the last 3 months proved to be drain on the bank. The Profits were at +237 in June following Brian Gay's win at St.Jude but with either the favourite or first time winners prevailing it was heartache to watch so many of my selects finish 6th - 10th week in week out missing the place money. I did continue to invest 10 units each week, keeping the faith, but I have leaned a little lesson (I think), a % of the bank each week is the way forward, allowing for less losses and better profits when the bank rises (says he hopefully). As I commence 2010 with the 65.93 bank I have decided to invest just 7% of it until I reach +100 when I will revert back to 10% until it drops to 75. If the bank drops below 45 , I will reduce to 5%.I will of course still look at upping to 20 units once I can reach +240, 30 units should I reach +360 and so on.
I will look at my stable of golfers for the year and invest when & where I think they will go well and pending the bank whether to invest the minimum .5 unit or go more on the bigger odds.

My players to follow for 2010 are

Thomas Aiken (have to keep the faith despite his erractic form)
Martin Kaymer
Ross Fisher
Lee Westwood
Padraig Harrington
Rhys Davies
Shane Lowry

As Rory McIlroy heads for the USA this year I will also look out for his odds should they exceed 20/1

Roll on South Africa & the Middle East the next few weeks and hopefully I can get a collect early to set-up a better 2010.

My target for the year end is to reach +400- its do-able!
