A new course presents itself this week for the Scandinavian Masters where Henrik Stenson & Annika Sorenstam hosts this unique mixed event in a week where new formats seem to be the start of new beginnings. Alex Noren heads the betting having made his way home from the PGA Tour and it's hard to argue that he's head & shoulders above the field here, playing on his home turf where he has tasted success in the past. The youtube live broadcast is worth checking out for players warming up before tee-time.
Not an event to get overly excited about or indeed get involved in betting wise, but I'm siding with the following based on recent efforts and price.
Scott Hend posted a T-15 LTO in The Netherlands to break his streak of 7 missed cuts this season and if his clubs arrive in Sweden (his twitter posts seem to suggest that these go missing in transit quite often) he might be in the mood to improve on his 4th place finish at this event last year up the road at Vallda GC in Gothenburg. Hendy is mercurial to say the least but this is a field that he can play comfortably against and make the price of 150/1 - 7 places seen a tad generous.
I was interested slightly in Robert Rock here but in the end decided just three players would complete my staking plan and I'm happy to chance Francesco Laporta @ 100/1 - 7 places. The Italian hasn't been in great form this year yielding just 2 TOP-20s in his 13 starts, the most recent in Belgium three starts ago. I did put him up earlier this year and I'm not convinced his game is all that bad and that it will take just one good week to rekindle it.
Alfredo Garcia-Heredia popped up on my shortlist below for his SG:T2G & SG:APR stats which appear suitable for the course this week. Closer look at his form shows he has posted 7/10 this season with just a solitary T-20 coming at Kenya but he's also posted 3no. T-40s. He's chanced at 125/1 - 7 places.
I was very close to backing the shortlisted players in the table above highlighted before settling on the three players on the staking plan. Its a tough one to call and perhaps an insight into the "social scene" that awaits this week might be a better indicator as to who will relish the format!
