Let's hope for better luck this week following Collin Morikawa's collapse last Sunday when he looked like banking our first winner of the year. Whilst watching the final round I did have that strange feeling he wouldn't win and before the first bogey @ 14, those doubts were very real as Jon Rahm was fully in the zone and Collin was "nervous". We can look at Collin Morikawa in the future in two ways: his price will give us "value" or he's a choker and may not be able to shake two recent "chokes" and therefore he will become a "no-bet" until he does make amends. by showing the bottle required to seal the deal. A two-time Major winner and a superb ball striker, I'm not writing him off but I never thought Martin Kaymer wouldn't win again following his collapse in Abu Dhabi but it does happen. He is a quality player, has a strong mindset but for now, for me, it appears he choked, (that chip shot on 15!) and he'll need to convince me before backing with again.
My Shortlist - 20 man + my man, Max McGreevy
From the shortlist above, I've settled on 4 players. (I tried to back English in a PP shop last night,19:30 @ 50/1 but he was down to 40s, went to Boyles & The Track and same....before checking Sporting Life to see if Ben Coley had tipped and sure enough he had- some price mover these days to be fair to him but I'll need to work on this if maintaining the value from my list. I got 45s this afternoon with Ladbrokes - being red/green deficient in colour blindness, it did give me a bit of a headache walking the door! I won't complain if I need to revisit Monday!) I passed on Henley who I was rather keen on before best price 20/1 turned me off, Brian Harman & Tom Kim and Sungjae Kim. I may rue leaving out David Lingmerth as there is a good bit of value to be had perhaps but I'll stick with the 4 below:
Selections:
1.5 pts e/w H.English @ 45/1 - 8 places
1.5 pts e/w S.W.Kim @ 40/1 - 8 places
1.5 pts e/w G.Woodland @ 50/1 - 8 places
0.5 pts e/w M. McGreevy @ 500/1 - 8 places
